About Ubumi
Ubumi Prisons Initiative (Ubumi) works to improve the health of vulnerable groups in Zambian correctional facilities. This includes children (including circumstantial children and children in conflict with the law), pregnant women, mothers, and seriously ill people, as well as the psychologically vulnerable. Support programs include health, including mental health, sanitation, education, skills-building and reintegration interventions inside and outside of correctional centres.
Brief
Ubumi Prisons Initiative (Ubumi) and Prisoners Future Foundation (PFF) seeks to strengthen its policy position and guidance in regards to Safeguarding and contracted Namvela to lead the process of developing a Safeguarding Policy and Safeguarding training to serve as resources for the organisations, including a training for the broader Prisons Health Advisory Committee and duty bearers.
What We're Doing
Namvela conducted a safeguarding training and co-creation workshops with Ubumi and PFF to build awareness on safeguarding issues, and train on basic safeguarding principles. We also collected data regarding how both organisations can handle safeguarding disclosures in terms of vulnerable groups and their specific needs, escalation and mitigation strategies. We developed a safeguarding strategy and policy for both Ubumi and PFF.
